On Monday, April 22nd, the student went to school for their first day back after an argueably long two-weeks holiday of eid al-fitr. To commemorate this event, Pembangunan Jaya Sidoarjo Highschool held a small gathering and “forgiving” event called “Halal bi Halal”. “Halal bi Halal” is a custom event / tradition that is normally held after eid in local communities for its members to formally “apologise” and have a fresh restart of relationship from one person to another.
On this awaited Monday-morning, the students are gathered in the basketball field to create a long snake-shaped line, standing next to one another as each and everyone are expressing their graditute and forgiveness to another. In a small colaboration with the student council’s Department of Religion and Wellness, the school has made this year’s “Halal bi Halal” a little more exciting. Combining this event with the Department’s biweekly program called “Fae-day”, on this lovely morning, all of the students are asked to brought in snacks, fruits, and drinks as much as they wished to be enjoyed together over small talks at the gathering.
Over boxed teas and chocolate donuts, the talks and gathering went filled with laughters and pleasing gratitude, swiftly recharging souls and restarting relationships that may have diminished before, leaving a breeze of an early-spring snow-like atmosphere in the air of the student’s first day back at school.
