It’s college admission season here in Indonesia, and it never gets easier every year. It is infamously known that the national college application process is the most competitive admission of every national education level admissions there is. The challenges of this process varies from it’s three years-worth of preparations, the amount of students applying, the university’s low acceptance rates, and the yearly constant-changing application procedure. Every year, hundreds and thousands of students from all across Indonesia compete to get into the country’s top universities with the highest-demand majors, but only an incredibly few numbers of them managed to be admitted.
This exact same of pressure is also gone through by SMAPJ Sidoarjo’s graduating class of 2024. Thankfully, in spite of all the incredibly selective admission and the brand new application system by the ministry, an impressing amount of our students managed to receive a blue-colored announcement from the admission teams which indicate that they got into their dream universities and majors.
To get detailed and personal, The Arc asked a few of the students to share their success story, here’s what they said :
Audi ’24 shared about her preparations, “To prepare for the SNBP, I prepared the required files, especially the certificates of achievement. I have around 10+ certificates, but after being selected, only 5 were eligible to be included, and from there I selected again, because the maximum number of certificates was 3. And the website had an error at that time, my friends and I couldn’t finalize the data even though we already had it. The time limit is tight, so we were really afraid that we won’t be able to take part in the SNBP stage. but thank God I finally did it”. Al ’24 also shared about he’s preparations for SNBP, “I happened to have no prior preparation for the SNBP, because I think a mixture of luck also plays a role in SNBP. But, maybe from grade 10 to grade 12 the grades should be stabilized and do that while preparing for SNBT/UTBK as well”.
Later, Audi also added her experience and reaction on the big day, “On the day, my friends and I were really nervous all day, plus at that time we were still in the middle of exams so we were somehow nervous twice as much.” Audi continued, “Then I standby on the website for about 5 minutes before the announcement, I was feeling realistic because I saw the data on the stringency of my major (data science technology) last year and it was really high. I’m willing to accept it if, for example, I recieved red/not accepted, because there is still the SNBT stage and my chance of passing the SNBT is greater. Finally, when it was 3 o’clock, I opened the announcement with my parents and it turned out I am admitted!! Of course I feel very happy because my efforts from semesters 1-5 have produced satisfactory results”.
This year’s success opens up a new and fresh sense of hope for the school’s future college admission rate. The students of the next graduating class are taking this a glint of light and inspiration. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
