Last Eid, The Arc asked our students to fill out a form to do a survey and find out about their favorite snacks commonly presented on Eid. In the culture from where the students came from, it is a customary practice to serve certain types of snacks – both savory and sweet to celebrate Eid. Ranging from rice crackers to fermented cassava, these snacks are roughly similar but different in each and every households. To see what kind of snacks are the most popular and fanciful to our students tastebuds, The Arc has conducted a survey which was filled by students from every class in Pembangunan Jaya Sidoarjo high school.
Let us dive you through the SMAPJ’s official Eid snack ranking. With the total of 15 votes, “Nastar” appeared to be a number one crowd favorite, though one vote stated that he or she prefered their “Nastar” which is notoriously known for its pineapple filling, without it. Moving on to our first runner-up, with 10 votes, Choco chip seems to be a neutral classic for the students. With just one vote less, “Lidah Kucing” earned its place as thrid on our official ranking. With 8 votes, another classic, the first savory on our most favorite line up, “Kastengel” earned a fourth place on this list. Some other honorable mentions on the list are : Putri Salju, Kue Semprit, Stik, Tape (Fermented Cassava), Palm Cheese, Kuku Macam, Roti Mawar, Rengginang (Rice Cracker), and the only fruit that made it on the list is Banana.
As these snacks’s yearly-enjoyer gave our students the authority to make this rank, let’s hear their professional statement of reasons. Editor has put the student’s defending statement to a summary of each snack’s team, here’s what our winner “Nastar” defenders has to say : Most students decided to land on “Nastar” as their favorite because it is a classic eid staple in most household. It holds a special memories and nostalgia that takes it to a next level. Many of the students described the experience of enjoying it by tasting the sweet-sour melted pineapple jam combined with the tartness of its savory soft crust.
Next on the list, this is what the Choco Chip’s fans has to say about their pick : this team’s statement consists of people who’s favorite flavour is chocolate and that they also stated that there is no reason to not like this snack. This is also the team that the editor happened to fall into.
Our third place, let’s hear from “Lidah Kucing” defenders : this team’s main statement of reason is how this snack is a decent simple sweet snack without being too sweet. This snack’s fans also stated how this snack is light and incredibly addicting. And in most of their statements, the students love this snack for its crunch effect.
And finally, the one and only savory snack that made it into top 4, “Kastengel” : this team is exactly the opposite of choco chip’s. This team consist of students whose favorite flavour is cheese, and prefer savory foods over sweets.
One last honorable mention is from our chemistry teacher that stated to be a fan of “Tape” or Fermented Cassava snack, let’s hear his inspiring statement : “Because tape teaches us the chemistry and biology of the fermentation process. Sour and bitter at the beginning, will bring sweetness at the end. Likewise with life, God willing, it will be sweet in the end”, Mr Edi stated.
In conclusion, this survey showed that together with its element of nostalgia and memories, something as simple as small snacks to mean a lot and brought lots of joyful giggles to our students that enjoyed it, and our editor that wrote this. See you on our next survey, Archers!
