“In the process of doing it, this is one of my toughest & hardest (musical) training”, stated by Alberth ‘26 while talking about his 1st place win on this year’s guitar solo competition on the Sidoarjo Regency round of FLS2N. FLS2N is a talent competition in the field of arts and culture for students at primary, middle, and senior high schools. This competition is an annual event held by the Ministry of Education (Kemendikburistek) as a part of the series of competition held in the first half of the year such as OSN and O2SN. Because it is held by the Ministry of Education, the level of prestige this competition uphold is one of the top ones in Indonesia, making it one of the most competitive one as well, as this competition competes the best artist from each schools all across Indonesia.

This year, SMA Pembangunan Jaya Sidoarjo sent a few representatives to compete in different fields of arts being contested on the regency round of FLS2N. And from those representatives, two wins were earned. Those wins are : 2nd place for short film won by Kalila ‘26, Nenggo ‘26, and Chelsia ‘26. And, 1st place for solo guitar won by Alberth ‘26.

Wanting to dive deeper into this outstanding achievement, The Arc asked these accomplished and talented artists, their experiences and ups-and-downs while working on this competition, here’s what they had to say :

Kalila ‘26, Nenggo ‘26, & Chelsea ‘26, “Making this short film begins with creating and validating a concept with a given theme. The theme for the film relates to achievements in the arts. We wanted to create a story that was realistic but still inspiring, so we raised the topic of the role of failure in the frame of success. Then, we assemble the crew and cast needed and schedule the recording time. When that time comes, we record each scene according to the script/storyboard. The recording results are then used in the editing process. We also re-recorded the sound effects/sfx ourselves”. They continue to talk about their obstacles, “When we shot the film in April, it was in the middle of Eid. So, we had a really hard time asking for help from our cast members. The cast we got was smaller than we expected, but the end result was still quite satisfying. Not only that, we ourselves were cut off by going home and going on holiday, so the time for recording and editing was cut down too”. “There are many things to learn in the process of making this film. From cinematography, team management, and others. This opportunity has taught us a lot, but it is still fun and exciting”, they stated.

Alberth ‘26, “I actually wanted to take part in the FLS2N solo guitar competition just to try, because this is my first time taking a part in a music competition, especially according to my own wishes”. He continue, “Honestly, I was quite stressed and tired doing it. Due to many sudden schedule changes, many other events to cover, the song was difficult, and how tight time frame was”. “In the process, this is one of the toughest and hardest musical exercises I ever did. I remember practicing from early in the morning until 6 pm at school, until there was a time when my hands became very sore, and if I’m not mistaken I remember crying. And I end up recording with only modest results”, he recounts his struggles. “But what was quite surprising, thank God, I received the information from my teacher (Mr. Alex), that I had won 1st place at the (FLS2N) Regency level, and qualified for the Provincial level competition”, he stated.

This amazing accomplishments, proofs that there are indeed many future artists among the SMA Pembangunan Jaya Sidoarjo. Congratulations to Alberth, Kalila, Nenggo, and Chelsia, may the best of luck are with you on the next round! You have been an inspiration to us all.
