Welcoming Chinese New Year 2025, Pembangunan Jaya 2 Sidoarjo School held a series of special events to enliven the celebration. From elementary to high school units, all Pembangunan Jaya 2 students joined together to enliven the event, which was held on January 31, 2025. This event not only aims to celebrate Chinese New Year but also to strengthen togetherness between students and teachers. In addition, this activity is an educational tool to introduce Chinese culture, instill the value of tolerance for diversity, and foster a spirit of cooperation. One of the main activities that became a highlight was the Fun Walk around the neighborhood around the school, which was followed by an attractive Barongsai performance, as well as various other entertainment.
The activity began with a Fun Walk, where students walked leisurely around the residential area around the school with enthusiasm. Along the way, students enjoyed the atmosphere of togetherness while greeting residents who were also enthusiastic about this event. This activity is not only a light sporting event but also strengthens the relationship between the school and the surrounding environment. Interestingly, each unit wore clothes of different colors, namely red, green, and blue, creating a festive and colorful scene. In Chinese culture, these colors have their deep meaning. Elementary students wore red which symbolizes luck and happiness, junior high students wore green which reflects balance and growth, and high school students wore blue which symbolizes tranquility and hopes for a harmonious year
After reaching the designated point, the students stopped for a moment to watch the attractive Barongsai performance, accompanied by enthusiastic cheers from the students who enjoyed the excitement of this year’s Chinese New Year celebration. There were two Barongsai in red and pink performing agile attractions that amazed many spectators. Enthusiastic cheers were heard from the students who enjoyed the excitement of this year’s Chinese New Year celebration. The atmosphere was even more festive with the sound of traditional musical instruments that accompanied the Barongsai attraction with its distinctive sound. The rhythm of this distinctive music makes the Barongsai performance more lively, arousing the enthusiasm of students and spectators who watched.
The highlight of the event came during the session of giving angpao (红包) to the barongsai. The students enthusiastically put the angpao into the lion’s mouth, following a tradition believed to bring good luck and sustenance in the new year. The Barongsai responds with agile movements and cheerful expressions, to great applause from all participants. Many also captured their moment of togetherness with a photo with Barongsai. This joyful atmosphere made a deep impression on the school’s Chinese New Year celebration. After the Barongsai performance, the students walked leisurely back to school together.
Arriving at school, the students received a special surprise from the teachers. After the program was over, the teachers distributed various snacks to the students, adding happiness to this Chinese New Year celebration. Students enthusiastically accepted the snacks that had been prepared, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness among all school members. The activity ended with a short performance from the lion dance and a photo session with the lion dance. Then, for high school students, the activity continued with a complimentary eye check-up from one of the hospitals in Sidoarjo which could be felt by the students of Pembangunan Jaya 2 High School. With this complimentary eye check-up, students are expected to know how the condition related to their eyes and immediately take action recommended by the doctor for eye improvement. Afterward, the activities for high school students ended with the handover of new positions for the Roodzwart 2025 board, a group of students as loyal supporters who were present to provide full support to the school team.
The Chinese New Year 2025 celebration at Pembangunan Jaya 2 Sidoarjo School was full of joy and togetherness. Through a series of activities such as Fun Walk, lion dance performances, giving angpao, and distribution of snacks by teachers, this event is not only a moment of celebration, but also strengthens relationships between students, teachers, and the entire school community. With this spirit of togetherness, it is hoped that the new year will bring good luck, happiness, and success to all. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
